The Queen’s Head, Congleton is our Summer 24 Pub of the Season
The Branch Summer Pub Of The Season 2024 is the Queen’s Head in Congleton. Situated across the road from the town’s railway station and alongside the canal, the pub has traditionally been a regular haunt for the discerning cask ale drinker.
However, late in 2018, the pub’s very existence was under threat as plans were submitted to convert it to housing use, to fierce local opposition. Fortunately a local consortium stepped in to rescue the Queen’s, one member of which was current owner Rob Allen, who along with wife Adele bought out the other members in 2022.
In recent times, the Queen’s has had an increased dining focus, which has proved to be very popular, but that’s not to say that those just wanting to venture in for a pint or two are unwelcome. Far from it. Six cask beers are usually available – Bass, Timothy Taylor Landlord, Abbot Ale and the Beartown-brewed Queen’s Pale are the 4 permanent offerings, joined by a couple of guests. The guests can be from any number of breweries and often has a stout or porter among them. The pub’s inclusion back in the Good Beer Guide of late has been very well-deserved
The bar team, led by Carol, create a welcoming environment for drinkers and diners alike. Dogs are welcome both in the pub and also in the large outdoor area adjoining the car park. The pub also has occasional live music events and a boardgaming group meets there every Thursday evening.
Come and join us at 1pm on Saturday 27th July for the presentation, which coincides with the Congleton Big Beer Weekend, in which the Queen’s is taking part. It should be a great afternoon.
