Cheshire Pub of the Year, Brewery Tap, Chester
August 2, 2025
This year's Cheshire Pub of the Year is the Brewery Tap owned by Spitting Feathers brewery who are located in rural Waverton on the outskirts of Chester.
The pub is located in a former Jacobean banqueting hall, which won a CAMRA & English Heritage Conservation and Conversion to Pub Use award back in 2009. Charles I stayed in the Grade II listed building in 1645 and, behind a perspex panel, part of the original wall can still be seen. Reached by fifteen steps from the street, this city centre pub's stone floors, high ceilings and tapestries create a terrific ambience.
A comprehensive, changing list of real ales from micros, many regional, complements the house beers from Spitting Feathers plus an eclectic selection of bottled and canned beers including bottled real ciders.

Getting there from the Macclesfield & East Cheshire Branch could be more complicated than usual for some because of the rail closure through Stockport.
There should be a service on the Altrincham - Chester Line. Those living between Holmes Chapel & Styal should be able to get a train via Manchester. Those in Macclesfield & Congleton can catch a bus to Crewe then on to Chester by rail or alternatively, bus.
details to follow hopefully!
